Our School

Brixham is situated on the south-west edge of Torbay. It has an historic harbour, with a busy fishing industry, the remains of a Napoleonic fort and conservation area and it is a thriving tourist resort. As part of the children’s education, we try to go out into the local area as often as we can, to experience our heritage and community resources and to help the children develop pride and interest in their town.

We are a Local Authority Community School housed in a characteristic Victorian building. Our school is full of history and life and almost two thirds of our current school population have parents or relatives who came to our school in the past, including a former Prime minister!

There are just over 300 children on roll, ranging from 3-11 who are accommodated in eleven classrooms including our superb Foundation Stage Unit. Our children are thoughtfully grouped, some in mixed-age classes.

At Furzeham Primary and Nursery School we provide a secure, nurturing, high quality learning environment which inspires our children to develop life- long learning skills and enables them to achieve the best future outcomes. Our expectations are high; offering high quality first teaching and an enriched curriculum which engages and excites children to drive their own learning with increasing independence.
